Red In both English and Chinese, “red” is usually associated with
a) celebrations and joyful occasions;
b) blood / war;
c) revolution or communism (usu. Derogatory in western culture, as in Red [ie Communist] China 红色/赤色中国; but commendatory in Chinese culture, as in 军(Red Army),又红又专[become both red and expert]).
Besides, in English, red is often associated with anger.
(1) red-letter days  喜庆的节日
(2) paint the town red  狂欢作乐
(3) to see red:become very angry
(4) My bank account is $50 in the red.
(我的银行帐户透支50美元)
be out of the red: be no longer in debt.
(5) We must give our guests the red-carpet treatment.
我们得隆重接待贵宾.
(6) He was caught red-handed while he was committing the crime.
他在作案时被当场抓住。
(7) 他们正加倍努力,争取来年赢得开门红。
   They are making great efforts to make a good start in the coming New Year.   
(8) 由于睡眠不足,他两眼都红了。
    His eyes became bloodshot from lack of sleep.
(9) 他的名字上了红榜。
    His name is in the honour roll.
(10) (过年给孩子) 发红包
give children gift/lucky money (in a red envelop)
送红包给新郎
give out money as a wedding gift
给医生送红包
give a doctor under-the-table payment
(11) 他红光满面
His face was ruddy and healthy-looking/ His face was glowing with health.
